Welcome back! Well since this thread is supposedly about nothing, I just took a beautiful walk in the beautiful moonlight, in the beautiful weather with a beautiful dog in a beautiful town, in a deep, dark universe . . .

Good for you, A&W. It must have been difficult to get to where you are now. Hugs! I would not want to trade places with you, but I'm glad you're moving on!

Remember OpenFireGlass?
by Good Girl or Bad Girl? inhey friends,.
for those of you who know him, i just can't stop obsessing over this yet, and feel the urge to share, our lovable resident hippie (i can say that 'cause i mean it in a positive way and i adore him, so there), openfireglass, has shorn his dreads.
he gave himself a haircut yesterday and the dreadlocks are no more.. it was a surprise that i came home to after work yesterday.

Have you changed your mind about ABORTION?
by nicolaou ini'm not after a discussion on the rights or wrongs on abortion, what i'm asking is whether or not your views have evolved over time.. perhaps leaving the watchtower was enough to allow your true feelings on abortion to find expression.
maybe abortion is one of those subjects where you still find yourself in agreement with your old jw self.
did becoming a mother change your perspective in any way or solidify your views?.

Why is it so difficult for people to understand that all forms of abortion, regardless of the reasons for them, are birth control?

social skills and JW's
by Descender init occured to me the other day that many jehovah's witnesses have very bad social skills outside of the kindom hall.
my brother, who still goes to meetings but isn't a strong believer, and his wife, who is a 4th generation jw with very stong beliefs and a very self righteous attitude asked my wife and i if we'd like to go for a hike at a local national park the other day.
i faded years ago and my wife is not and has never been a jw and isn't religious.

she said it might be funny to go to the store and buy a creepy little toy of some sort and send it to my sister-in-law without a return address with a message on it that says, "Hi, I'm a demon."
She asked me what would happen and I told her I bet my SIL would probably run outside and burn it right away. My wife said that'd be great because then she could just keep buying the same creepy toy and conspicously leave it beside my sister-in-law's bed or somewhere in their house everytime she burns one. :)
I know of the perfect toy; however, you might have to get someone to copy the design of it, which might be terribly rude, if not illlegal.
It's a hand-made sculpture of Satan driving a "sinner loader."
Satan is red and naked and has a hard-on for all the little people loaded on his front-loader.
If I can make a picture and link it here, I will.
It's one of my favorite physical objects of all time for the way it makes fun of demonic ideas and hell. It resides in the home of a recovering Catholic, married to an atheist Jew.

Horrifying report on China/did anyone watch Planet in Peril last night?
by restrangled infrom the most digusting, filthy food growing conditions of which more and more of our own food is contaminated with to abuse and consumption of exotic animals, especially the endangered.
they are the worlds biggest contributors to the decline of endangered animals and are creating more.
750 large bears were shown in cages with huge metal tubes inserted into their stomachs to suction out bile every day for old chinese medicine recipes.

I believe TransFairUSA is one I'm familiar with.
Certified fair trade coffees and other fair trade agriculture might be of interest to you.
I think the Organic Consumers Association (US) might also be helpful.
Also, there is something on the web you can look up; I think it is called SweatShop Watch (or something). Your local co-ops may have ideas for you as well in helping find more humane ways of shopping.
GOOD LUCK!

I started looking around the house and I can't believe how much is from China. I don't know how, but I am going to avoid buying anything from China if I can help it.
r.
I used to boycott Chinese products, too. Since all the food scares, I am definitely avoiding any food products or gifts for kids that come from China. Part of the reason for all the recent recalls is that so much of our stuff is being imported from there; more stuff with difficulty regulating it = more recalls.
It is very disturbing, although I did not see the show.
It's not surprising that they have such an abysmal issue with animal rights, when you study their terrible record on human rights, no?
Unfortunately, boycotting Chinese goods may do just as much harm as good in the world; it's a very tough call.
There are really some terrible problems there (and all over), and I don't want to support making more problems by buying things that are practically made by slave labor.
Making good buying decisions in this economy is a depressing challenge at times, but there really are a few good options.
R - are you familiar with 10,000 Villages? You might want to check that out.
Also, SERVV International (I think they changed their name)?
Google up "fair trade" and you may find some helpful ideas!

Another thing I wish that I and my family could not relate to.
Oh, well, nobody's perfect, esp. those who "have all the answers."
